Houston Karaoke

Just wrapped up a long day of charter fishing near Houston in which we caught lots of nice redfish and speckled trout. It was a blast. Casino Karaoke!!!

Last night I had a long night night of playing poker at a casino near Albuquerque, and I ended up losing all of my money. So I went over to the bar and they had a karaoke contest going on! I was too late to enter, but I enjoyed watching everyone else sing.

I have definitely come to the conclusion that karaoke is more fun when everyone is really bad. When everyone is really good, it can kind of take away from the fun a bit.

Places to Sing Karaoke in Dallas

There are lots of really great places to sing karaoke in Dallas. I live in Dallas and sing karaoke regularly. Here are a few of my regular hangouts.

1. Uptown Bar and Grill – Uptown Bar and Grill has karaoke on Thursday nights and you will find me there quite frequently. It is a fun crowd with lots of energy. Only problem… the song selection. There is not as much diversity in terms of what you can sing as other places. Uptown B & G is on McKinney.

2. There is a fun place in the Bishop Arts District that I visit every once in a while. It’s called Bar at Bishop. It is tucked away in the corner right at 7th and Bishop.

3. You can always head over to Fort Worth to the Poop Deck… it is a little bit of a drive from Dallas but has a fun crowd and some great karaoke.

There are lots of great options for karaoke in Dallas and Fort Worth. If you know of any other good places let me know!

Fort Worth Kareoke

Here are a few of my favorite places to sing karaoke in the Fort Worth Texas area:

Riscky’s Barbeque – a fun place to sing karaoke and eat some BBQ. The Sundance Square location is best.

The Poop Deck – It’s just a fun place to go. It is located south of TCU off of Granbury Road.

Blue Angel Bar – This bar is actually a bit northwest of Fort Worth in Azle but I really like it so I am listing it here anyway.

A top notch system

Karaoke machines are great for parties and other get togethers. Everyone has more fun when there is karaoke involved. If you want to invest in a top notch karaoke system for your home you should think about heading over to Radioshack.

At Radioshack you can get an Emerson DV 101 Professional CD+G Karaoke System. It is my favorite karaoke machine for home use.

This is a professional caliber system and it comes with a microphone, speakers, an amplifier, the karaoke player and stands… a complete setup for some rocking karaoke. Online the setup costs $600. This really is not that bad of a deal especially if you consider how much it would cost to buy each of the items in the karaoke set individually.

Finding Your Voice

Most people are good at singing some Kareoke music… you just have to find the right artist that fits your voice. Everyone’s voice has different qualities and if you try to be (or sing) something that isn’t you your singing will suffer.

Over many years of singing in my car and singing kareoke songs in bars I have learned that I can really rock Bob Dylan. So I mostly sing stuff such as Like a Rolling Stone, Knocking on Heaven’s Door, Rainy Day Woman, Positively 4th Street and other hits like that.

On the other hand, when I have tried stuff from Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin I have crashed and burned. It’s all about finding the voice.

Wii Kareoke

Kareoke is getting more and more popular. For individuals who aren’t very confident in their kareoke singing abilities and don’t want to sing in front of a large crowd there are many options.

One such option is singing kareoke in your own home. Lots of video game systems have fun kareoke games that will judge how well you sing. Nintendo Wii, for example, has some great kareoke games such as American Idol Encore.

Kareoke is evolving with technology and getting more and more popular. There are more different kareoke options now than ever before.

Private Kareoke Rooms

I have always been used to singing kareoke in a big bar where I would be lucky to get in one or two songs in a night. However, a new trend is starting. There are lots of kareoke places in which you rent a private room and just sing with your friends.

I did the for the first time at a small kareoke bar in Atlanta. I was skeptical at first but I actually really liked it. My two friends and I just got a lot of drinks and sang a lot of kareoke songs and it was really a lot of fun. I got to sing probably ten songs that night.
